POSITION PURPOSE
The Assistant Director, Multimedia Development & Services is responsible
for supporting and providing multimedia technologies to the campus. This
includes the management of Multimedia Development Lab and overseeing the
operation of the Instructional Multimedia Services. This position reports
to
the Director of IT Support Service and collaborates and coordinates with
other
members of Technology
Services to provide an information technology environment that is
consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of
faculty, staff, and students.

- Manages the day-to-day operation of the Multimedia Development Lab.
This includes training and supervision of student lab assistants.

- Oversees the operation of Instructional
Multimedia Services (IMS). This includes supervision of staff in IMS.

- Provides assistance to the academic community on the use of multimedia
software and equipment, including but not limited to video editing, audio editing, and
graphic production and editing resources, and serves as a
resource for
identifying and solving hardware and software problems relating to the
instructional use of multimedia.

- Participates in
- the planning, coordinating, designing, scheduling and conducting of
technology-related seminars and workshops for students, faculty, and staff.
- the planning, coordinating, designing and implementation of institutional development projects.
- the preparation and dissemination of information (e.g. documentation,
handouts, newsletter) regarding multimedia resources and WCTS services.

- Maintains professional contacts with other colleges, associations,
organizations and vendors concerning instructional uses of multimedia
technology.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Individuals must posses knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able
to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential
functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some
other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary
physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devises, to
safely perform the essential functions of the job.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
- operation of multimedia production equipment and other peripheral
devices.
- the installation of multimedia microcomputer applications in a
networked environment.
- the use of various multimedia application software
- support of current Macintosh operating systems
- the effective use of the Internet
- Web page construction
- consulting with users on various software, hardware, and network problems.
- consulting with users on and diagnosing problems in multimedia
applications
- effectively teaching and tutoring individuals and groups
- Strong service orientation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish
and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a
variety of campus constituencies.
- A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an
ability to match technical opportunities to college goals.
- Preferred skills include experience in multimedia production in higher
education environment and experience in supervisory role.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor's degree in information technology, or other relevant
field. Advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum two years experience in multimedia user support in a
networked computing environment.
- Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
