POSITION PURPOSE

The Chief Technology Officer serves on the President’s Council and provides the vision and strategic leadership in the implementation of technology to further the institution’s mission and goals. CTO is responsible for the administration and innovative utilization of administrative, instructional, multimedia, network and telecommunication technologies.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provide leadership and management of the campus technology.
  2. Lead strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology system for the college.
  3. Develop, implement, and evaluate all technology policies and programs to support and enhance the educational and administrative environment.
  4. Provide support for faculty, students, and staff in their use of technology, the acquisition and support of academic and administrative applications, the design, installation and maintenance of its networking and telecommunications infrastructure.
  5. Oversee the operation of academic and instructional technology, administrative technology, network technology, user support services, multimedia development, instructional multimedia services, hardware maintenance and repair, and telephone and voice mail service.
  6. Directly supervise Directors/lead staff in four key areas: IT Support Services, Administrative Technology, Network and Communication Technology, and Emerging Technology.
  7. Work closely with member of the President’s Council to improve the quality and efficiency of services in various administrative and academic offices and departments.
  8. Represent the College and maintain professional contacts with other colleges, associations, organizations and vendors concerning technology

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Individual must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. An understanding of the value of an undergraduate residential liberal arts education.
  2. Clear vision of the role of technology in higher education.
  3. Thorough knowledge and experience with all aspects of technology management and development, including supervision of a large professional technical staff.
  4. A deep understanding of technology trends, applications, current developments and new directions.
  5. Extensive experience in senior level management, including strategic planning and complex budget administration.
  6. Effective verbal and written communication/presentation skill.
  7. An ability to attract and motivate knowledgeable staff.
  8. Ability to build community both inside and outside Technology Services.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to participatory management and a strong service orientation.
  10. Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, both logical and interpersonal.
  11. Demonstrated aptitude for evaluating and negotiating for technology products and services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master’s degree required and minimum of eight years progressive administration in Technology Services.
  2. Recent technology management experience including budgeting, personnel management, and an in-depth knowledge of information technology systems and operations, project management, and information security.
  3. Significant senior-level management of all or part of technology organization in higher education preferred.
  4. Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
