POSITION PURPOSE

The Developer is responsible for the application development effort at Whitman College. This person also assists with the support for the multimedia users on campus. This position collaborates with other members of Technology Services to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

  1. Manage the technical aspects of the Whitman College Web services
    1. providing training and assistance to Web developers on campus.
    2. participating in planning/designing of the campus Web pages

  1. Participate in the application development effort at the Whitman College. This includes analysis, design and implementation of middleware integration applications.

  1. Assist Manager, MDL with:
    1. managing the Multimedia Development Lab.
    2. serving as a resource for identifying and solving computer related hardware and software problems relating to the use of multimedia.
    3. performing service calls and conducting training sessions on the use and application of multimedia software and hardware.

  1. Participate in the preparation and dissemination of information (e.g. documentation, handouts, newsletter) regarding multimedia resources and WCTS services.  In particular, this person is responsible for managing the publication of WhitBits, WCTS newsletter. WhitBits is both printed and Web-based.

  1. Participate in the operation of the WCTS Help Desk

  1. Maintain professional contacts with other colleges, associations, organizations and vendors concerning technology services and equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Individuals must posses these knowledges, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

  1. Requisite technical skills in:
    1. advanced programming and system analysis.
    2. working with relational database.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
    1. operation of multimedia production equipment and other peripheral devices.
    2. the installation of multimedia microcomputer applications in a networked environment.
    3. the use of various multimedia application software
    4. the use of the Internet
    5. Web page design and construction
    6. Desktop publishing
    7. consulting with users on various software, hardware, and network problems.
    8. consulting with users on and diagnosing problems in multimedia applications

  7. Preferred skills include experience in multimedia production in higher education environment, experience in student worker supervision, experience in user services in higher education and experience beyond the minimum requirement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. A bachelor's degree, two-year college degree plus two years experience in relevant field, or four years experience in relevant field.
  2. A minimum of two years experience in programming and systems analysis, with a requisite level of technical expertise.
  3. Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
