POSITION PURPOSE

The Director of IT Support Services is responsible for supporting the faculty, staff and students with their technology needs. This position collaborates with other members of WCTS to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Administer the operation and activities of information technology (IT) support services. This includes, but not limited to:
    1. supervision of staff.
    2. the management of the Help Desk.
    3. the management of the Work Order System.
    4. coordination of the equipment distribution/reallocation process
    5. researching and recommending software and equipment solutions for stated needs.
    6. assisting departments and offices of the college with technology-related issues.
  2. Administer the management of the general access student computer facilities on campus.
  3. Serves as a member of the WCTS Management Team whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
    1. determining the applicability of new technological developments and recommending appropriate usage.
    2. preparing and implementing the WCTS information technology plan.
    3. recommending, approving and/or executing purchase of technology hardware and software.
    4. providing opportunities for training and professional development for WCTS staff.
    5. formulating WCTS policies and procedures.
  4. Performs service calls for application related problems on campus.
  5. Maintains professional contacts with other colleges, associations, organizations and vendors concerning technology services and equipment.
  6. Perform other essential duties and implementation of projects as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Individuals must posses these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of s kills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of common microcomputer applications, such as word processing and spreadsheet; multimedia product development including Web page authoring, and the use of the Internet.
  2. Vision for and dedication to the role of academic computing within a small college.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.
  5. A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an ability to match technical opportunities to college goals.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to participatory management and a strong service orientation.
  7. Preferred skills include experience in a supervisory role, experience in teaching and curriculum development in a college or university, experience in information technology use in higher education, experience in applying quality management, a master' s or advanced degree, and relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, educational technology or other relevant field.
  2. A minimum three year experience in microcomputer user support in a networked educational environment.
  3. Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
