POSITION PURPOSE
Director, Administrative Technology is responsible for planning,
development, and operation of the college’s administrative computing
services and for assisting administrative offices with the use of
technology for effective and efficient opera tion. As a member of Whitman
College Technology Services (WCTS), this position collaborates with other
members of WCTS to provide an information technology environment that is
consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of
faculty, s taff, and students.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Administers the operations and activities of the administrative computing services.
- Serve as the database administrator (DBA) for the administrative information system.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of an administrative computing plan for the college.
- Serves as a member of the WCTS Management Team whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- determining the applicability of new technological development and
recommending appropriate usage.
- preparing and implementing the WCTS information technology
plan.
- recommending, approving and/or executing purchase of technology
hardware and software.
- providing opportunities for training and professional development
for WCTS staff.
- formulating WCTS policies and procedures.
- Provides assistance to departments and offices of the university with
technology-related issues, including planning training workshops and
developing documentation.
- Maintains professional contacts with other colleges, associations,
organizations and vendors concerning technology services and
equipment.
- Perform other essential duties and implementation of projects as
assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Individuals must posses these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able
to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential
functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some
other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary
physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to
safely perform the essential functions of the job.
- Requisite skills to administer a management information system for an educational institution.
- Requisite technical skills in advanced programming and systems analysis.
- Requisite skills required for database administration.
- Vision for and dedication to the role of administrative technologies with a small college.
- Demonstrated commitment to participatory management and a strong service orientation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.
- A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an ability to match technical opportunities to college goals.
- Preferred skills include experience in supervisory role, experience in higher education administrative computing environment, experience in user services in higher education and experience beyond the minimum requirement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or
other relevant field.
- A minimum of three years experience in the administration of a
management information system for an educational institution.
- A minimum of four years experience in advanced programming and
systems analysis.
- Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
