| POSITION
PURPOSE
Middleware Analyst,
Emerging
Technology, participates in the analysis, design, and implementation of
college-wide middleware integration applications.
As a member of Whitman College Technology Services (WCTS), this position
collaborates with other members of WCTS to provide an information
technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman
College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

- Collaborate with
other WCTS staff to analyze, design and
implement college-wide middleware integration applications.
This includes:
- installation, configuration, maintenance and enhancement middleware
environment--LDAP, account provisioning, identity management.
- design and writing of programs and scripts using Java, SQL and shell
scripts to match specficiations, test and debug programs.
- coordination of directory integration issues with systems
administration,
network, account management, and database administration.

- Provide technology
support, systems development, analysis and other
services for emerging technology in the academic area.

- Assist the
Chief Technology Officer with:
- the development
and implementation of innovative and effective IT services,
programs, and systems that support teaching, learning and
scholarship.

supervising WCTS staff, including student
workers.
- the planning,
coordinating, designing, scheduling and conducting of faculty
and staff development seminars and
training
- the preparation
and dissemination of information (e.g. documentation, handouts,
newsletter) regarding emerging technology.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
AND ABILITIES
Individuals must posses
these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate
that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job,

- Requisite skills to maintain
and support an information system for an educational institution.
- Requisite technical skills
in advanced programming and system analysis.
- Requisite skills required
for working with a relational database.
- Ability to consult with
users on and diagnose problems in database applications, as well as
in various other application software packages.
- Knowledge of and experience
in support the operation of Macintosh and Windows personal computer
equipment and peripheral devices in a networked environment.

and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative

- Knowledge of Linux and
Unix, and ability to program using Perl, JAVA, ColdFusion, PHP for
purpose of developing applications and tools for faculty, and expertise
in multimedia development and course management tools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor's degree in
computer science, information technology, educational technology or
other relevant field.
- A minimum two years experience
in microcomputer user support in a networked computing environment
- A minimum of two years
experience in advanced programming and system analysis, with a requisite
level of technical expertise.
- Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
