POSITION PURPOSE

Senior Analyst for Academic Technology Consulting Group takes the lead in assisting students, faculty and academic staff define technology needs and develop directions. As an academic technology co-consultant for Division II, this position serves as the primary support for Humanities faculty located in the Olin Building. As a member of Whitman College Technology Services (WCTS), this position collaborates with other IT members to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.

  1. As the Senior Analyst in Academic Technology Consulting Group:
    1. lead the group in researching and recommending software and equipment solution for the academics.
    2. coordinate the equipment distributon/reallocation for academic departments.
    3. coordinate the activities of academic consultants, including the management of the general access student computer facilities on campus and collaboration with other IT staff, library, and Center for Teaching and Learning.
    4. manage special academic projects as assigned.
    5. mentor junior IT staff.

  1. As the Academic Technology Co-Consultant for Division II:
    • provide desktop and application support for academic departments in the Division II located in the Olin Building. This includes consultation, troubleshooting, training, documentation, research, and exploration for specialized applications.
    • manage the maintenance of WCTS Computer Lab in the Olin Building
    • Participate in
      1. the planning, coordinating, designing, scheduling and conducting technology-related seminars and workshops for students, faculty and staff.
      2. the preparation and dissemination of information (e.g. documentation, handouts, newsletter) regarding WCTS services.

  1. Serve as a member of the IT Management Team whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
    1. determining the applicability of new technological developments and recommending appropriate usage.
    2. preparing and implementing the planning documents for IT.
    3. recommeding, approving and/or executing purchase of technology hardware and software.
    4. providing opportunities for training and professional development for the IT staff.
    5. formulating IT policies and procedures.

  1. Maintain professional contacts with other colleges, associations, organizations and vendors concerning instructional technology.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Individuals must posses these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

  1. Requisite skills to maintain and support an information system. Experience in educational environment preferred.
  2. Familiarity with needs and methodologies in the Humanities preferred.
  3. Requisite skills required for digitizing text, audio, and visual material.
  4. Proficiency with Mac OSX, Windows XP, Linux and Unix.
  5. Vision for and dedication to the role of academic technologies within a small college.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to participatory management and a strong service orientation.
  7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  8. A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an ability to match technical opportunities to college goals.
  9. A proven ability to translate challenges into opportunities and work comfortably in a changing, sometimes ambituous, environment.
  10. Willingness to work on evenings and weekends.
  11. Preferred skills include experience in a supervisory role, experience in teaching and curriculum development in a college or university, experience in information technology use in higher education, experience in applying quality management, a master's or advanced degree, and relevant experience beyond the minimum requirement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. A bachelor's degree in information technology, educational technology, science, or other relevant field. Advanced degree preferred.
  2. A minimum two years experience in microcomputer user support in a networked educational environment
  3. Satisfactory clearance of background check required.
