POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Hardware Technician is responsible for the installation,
maintenance and repair of all college owned technology equipment. As a member
of Whitman College Technology Services (WCTS), this position collaborates
with other members of WCTS to provide an information technology environment
that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs
of faculty, staff, and students.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintain and repair
technology-related equipment on campus. Technology
involved involved include,, but are not limited to: server
hardware, networked printers, computer desktops/laptops and Macintosh
computers.
- Maintain and order
technology equipment and supplies. Must keep an adequate inventory of spare
parts and equipment to facilitate the quick repair of computer
equipment.
- Setup equipment. The
work may include installation of operating system, security software,
device drivers, network software, installing cabling and connectors,
configuring settings, and security devices.
- Maintain records of
repair, placement and maintenance of equipment.
- Participate in the
assisting and training of faculty and staff in the use of technology.
- Perform service calls
for technology-related problems on campus.
- Assists Director,
Technology Infrastructure in
- Researching,
identifying, and solving technology-related equipment problems..
- Identifying
organization needs, setting goals and objectives, developing budget
requests, and determining resource allocation requirements.

Perform other
essential duties and implementation of projects as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Individuals must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they posses
the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of
the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other
combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical
requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devises, to safely perform
the essential functions of the job.
- An ability to operate
personal computers, and demonstrate proficiency with Internet resources,
and networked environments.
- An ability to learn
new technologies and assimilate new information quickly.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
- Trouble-shooting techniques and ability to read and interpret service
manuals.
- Detailed knowledge of computer operating systems.
- The use of a variety
of power and hand tools, cleaners and test equipment related to the
maintenance and repair of computer and network equipment.
- Strong service orientation.
- Strong interpersonal
and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain
cooperative and harmonious working relationship with a variety of campus
constituencies.
- An ability to match technical opportunities to college goals.
- An ability to perform
manual labor, including heavy lifting (50 lbs) regularly.
- Preferred skills
include ability to maintain records and inventories in a technical
office and experience beyond the minimum requirement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate
or equivalent. Two year college and/or technical school degree with
emphasis in electronics repair is preferred.
- Minimum three years
skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of
technology-related equipment.
- Satisfactory clearance
of background check required.
