Student System Reporting Techniques

Description:

The Student System Reporting Techniques class is structured to provide participants with an understanding of some of the primary data files in the Student System and their corresponding data elements. Through discussion and hands-on activities, participants will be given the tools to target, select and report on this data. Additionally, the concept of how pointers are used in this application will be discussed.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Student System Reporting Techniques class is to focus on a portion of the file structure of this application and the contents of those files. It provides effective methods for querying your database by applying previously learned data retrieval concepts to key Student System files. Specifically, the class provides:

  • Hands-on experience with Student System files with an emphasis on report generation
  • Tips on extracting complex data
  • Suggestions for designing your own reports
  • Techniques for using data to customize communication

Audience:

  • Computer Center staff responsible for database management
  • Key personnel who will use data retrieval for reporting purposes using the Student System application
  • Individuals responsible for converting current R13 paragraphs, MSP screens and Basic programs as part of the R13 to R14 transition

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of the Envision Terms and Concepts computer-based tutorial (if you use the character-based interface) or familiarity with the Guide to Colleague Interfaces (if you use one of the graphical user interfaces)
  • Fundamentals of Data Retrieval and Advanced Data Retrieval (or equivalent)
  • Module training for participant's administrative area

Course Length:

Two days - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
