About the Project
Whitman College signed a contract with Datatel on December 29, 1998. For background information as well as our implementation approach, see the
Implementation Approach Document.

Whitman will be conducting its implementation in two phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2. The
following sections will describe activities for each phase.
PHASE I: Jan 1, 1999-March 31, 1999
Phase I has already been funded.
Scope:
- Develop time line of implementation which best fits with departments work cycles and identify significant milestones to track against progress made.
- Conduct workflow re-engineering in functional areas.
- Conduct assessment and identify staffing needs during and after implementation.
- Perform all preliminary technical work, including acquisition and installation of
hardware and software.
- Conduct data conversion planning.
- Start the implementation of the "core" module which is the basis for all other
work. This work will continue through Phase II.
PHASE II: April 1, 1999-Jan 1, 2001
The second phase will be funded upon the submission of the Phase II
Detailed Budget
by the Implementation
Steering Committee.
Scope:
- Implementation of application modules for finance, student (which includes
admissions) and personnel. During the implementation, customization will be kept to a minimum.
- Continue to refine workflow and porcess maps to incorporate newly learned and acquired features in the new administrative software.
