Latin American Literature of the Colony and Independence (Spanish 412)

Project Description:

I proposed to develop a course on Latin American Literature of the Colony and Independence. This course is a comprehensive study of the literature of Latin America from the European exploration, conquest, and colonization, to its independence in the nineteenth century. It will be taught at the UPS campus on a bi-yearly basis and will have an important multimedia component, consisting of a web page, linked to my University home page to accompany the course readings. This page will be available for use by all Mellon faculty members and will be loaded on our server. It will include a detailed syllabus of the course, numerous links to related issues, and a Resources page which will include literary, historical and cultural information on each of the readings, reading guides and instructions for the writing of response and research papers.
