Fall 1997 Proposal
Name: Cecilia Benenati
Institution: Lewis & Clark College
Language Area: Spanish
Project Type: Course Release
Project Titles: - Second-year Multimedia Lessons
- Visiting Latin American Countries (Web pages and multimedia lessons)
- Personal Web Page
Duration:
Two semesters (1997-98) with probable extension for
similar projects to following year (1998-99)
Brief Description of Projects
- Second-year Multimedia Lessons: I will develop lessons related to material used
in Intermediate Spanish following the chapters from the book Fuentes. Content
and design will be decided on in consultation with other 200 level instructors
according to the perceived need for grammar and curricular material.
These lessons will be developed in such a way that they can be used following
the textbook organization, or individually. This format will allow professors
from other level courses to use them too, even if they are not teaching with the
second year book. One central lesson will be linked to others and to Web site
links where students can find
information related to the content.
- Visiting Latin American Countries: I will design lessons and Web pages on different
countries; especially the ones that our faculty visit with our overseas programs.
Having professors and instructors from six different Latin American countries
in the Department will make it easier to get original and interesting material
to create different units describing distinctive aspects of geography, history,
culture and politics, reflected in pictures, video, music, interviews with locals,
newspaper and magazine articles, etc.
This material can be used not only by Spanish instructors, but also by students
who are interested in traveling abroad, the Overseas Programs Office, Sociology,
Anthropology and History courses, etc.
- Personal Web Page: I am going to create my own Web Page in which I intend to
include course curricula, grammar handouts, exercises, assignments, links to other
pages, such as, newspapers, magazines, Universities in Latin American countries,
etc. I will also use it as a forum for discussions assigned in the lessons.
