TITLE: Collaborative Script Writing for a Video

DURATION: Spring semester, 2000

DESCRIPTION: After our Mini Conference last June, Lotus Sun Perry at the University of Puget Sound and I decided to work on a video project. We would like to make a video as a supplementary material for our intermediate and advanced classes. Both of us use Taiwan Today as one of the textbooks and Lotus is a co-author of the book. As initial preparation for the video project, we plan to write some scripts to supplement two chapters in the textbook. When the scripts are ready, we will need further support to shoot the video in the summer. For the writing of the script, I will travel from Walla Walla to Tacoma to meet with Lotus. We need two meetings to compare and discuss our scripts during the spring semester of 2000.

OUTCOME: The travel grant will allow me to go to UPS to work with Lotus. We want to make sure both of us are happy with the scripts before we can actually make the video. If we work on two chapters, we figured we probably should meet twice. Each of us can write some parts of the scripts, and we need meetings to go over the scripts together. We believe that good scripts are a prerequisite for a good video.

TIMELINE: We plan to have the scripts written during the spring semester. Then we will apply for a summer grant to start working on the video.
