Brief Description of
Projects:
- Second-year Multimedia
Lessons: Since the Spanish Departement has adopted a new Second Year textbook,
Conexiones, I have to convert the existing lessons used for the other book,
and develop new ones to fit the new content. These lessons have already been
used for two years now, proving to be of great aid to the language professors
and the students in enhancing and facilitating the teaching and understanding
of readings related to specific themes. Parts of these lessons have also been
used by instructors of other level courses, thus expanding the use of one
lesson to different classes.
- Finish Multimedia Lessons
for Spanish 102-201 sequence: I will finish developing lessons related to
material used in this course following the chapters from the book Puentes.
This is a special course with very specific grammar and curricular needs.
It was developed with the objective of giving students with some knowledge
of the language a chance to finish their language requirement in one year,
covering material from the second part of first year in the first semester
and the first part of second year in the second semester. These lessons, as
the ones for the book Conexiones, will be developed in such a way that they
can be used following the textbook organization, or individually. This format
will allow professors from other level courses to use them too, even if they
are not teaching with Puentes.
- Visiting Latin American
Countries: I will finish designing lessons and Web Pages on the countries
where Lewis & Clark has overseas programs. Having professors and instructors
from six different Latin American countries in the Department will make it
easier to get original and interesting material to create different units
describing distinctive aspects of geography, history, culture and politics,
reflected in pictures, video, music, interviews with locals, newspaper and
magazine articles, etc.

Student Assistant Fellowship
: This student will be of crucial importance in the development of the material
during the summer and later improvement and maintenance of the Web Pages and
lessons. She is very responsible and interested in learning how to use computers
and specific programs for the preparation of material for the teaching of languages.
The fact that she is a sophomore with an interest in majoring in Hispanic Studies,
is very important, since she will be at the college for two more years to help
us with the projects and she will be fluent in Spanish. During the summer she
will be able to help other Spanish instructors developing material.

requested for traveling will be used to go to CALICO 2000: "Core Technologies:
