Spring 2000 Proposal

Name: Maria D. Delgado Hellin

Institution: Willamette University

Language: Spanish

Status: Full-time, non-tenure Track

Type: TravelFellowship

Title: CALICO 2000

Duration: May 30, June 2000

Description: I am requesting travel funds to attend the CALICO annual conference at Arizona University in Tucson, Arizona from May 30 to June 3, 2000 on the application of technology to the teaching of foreign language.

Outcome: My goal is to expand my knowledge in the application of current technologies of Spanish in the classroom. Since the conference will offer a variety of pre-workshops, I will like to attend "The Gemini Authoring System for Macinthos" because it will allow me to experience a hand-on approach to the creating of multimedia materials which will support and enhance my proposed summer project.
Also "Making It Happen: Interactive Exercises for the Web" and "Multi-user Virtual Environments for Language Learning" workshops parallel my goal to support and supplement materials presented in class; the focus of both workshops is on creating web-ready interactive exercises.

timeline: My objective is to gain as much experience as possible in the application of new computer technology so I can, confidently, use it as a supplement tool in my teaching. The outcome will be measure by the actual application on new learned technology in the classroom setting.
