Brief description of projects:

1) Participation in CALICO '98 conference (Travel Fellowship): The CALICO '98: New Directions/New Perspectives provides an important opportunity for me to attend sessions and talk with colleagues on implementation of technology in teaching (especially on the issue of assessment) and review new software. I would plan to share information with other consortium members by posting a summary on our Web site, and/or by giving a talk at a future meeting. San Diego, July 6 - 10, 1998.

2) Third-year course revision and "Fiestas" project (Summer Fellowship): While I have completed all the major work on my Web page and have spent much time in the overall coordination of the Mellon project on our campus, I realize that I severely underestimated the time it would take to accomplish my projected goals on the third-year course revision project and the "Fiestas de Sevilla" project for which I also received course release this year. On the third-year project, while I have completed my planned consultations with colleagues (departmental and consortial) and students, and have a preliminary curriculum objectives statement, I have yet to review texts and design my hypermedia units. With the "Fiestas" project, I have selected and scanned my photographs and have reformatted them for the Guided Reading program. I still need to write and gloss the text and incorporate other video and audio material into the design and then put it all together. I would like to use time this summer to complete these projects. I have applied to participate in the Mellon Project 2001 Advanced Faculty Training Workshop at Middlebury which, along with the Walla Walla workshop, should facilitate this work and give me training in the new version of xMediaEngine and other software for capturing and manipulating video and still images. Both Beth Ohmer and our student assistant Noah Kersey will be assisting me and are already familiar with the technical aspects of this endeavor.

2) Course materials development (Course Release): By Fall 1998 I will have redesigned our third year program and will be field testing the first three hypermedia programs developed over the summer. Course release will allow me to review and revise these programs, making any necessary changes with the help of our student assistant Noah Kersey. I will be supervising the 301 and 321 courses as they are taught by two other instructors and myself. I will also continue to develop new "units" for the third year courses. The "Fiestas" project will be ready for use with the Spain Ô99 overseas study group. I will oversee its use and make changes as required. My Web page, which has been used fairly effectively this term especially with my Hispanic Literature in Translation class, will be expanded to incorporate new classes. Finally, I will continue to
coordinate our facultyÕs participation in all aspects of the Mellon grant, especially its use of the Mellon Faculty Work Station which has been established this year.
