The conference is intended for the Chinese faculty members from the three NWLC universities to meet and discuss issues regarding instructional technology that are of particular interest to each of their teaching and language programs. Lotus Perry at the University of Puget Sound, who has incorporated web-based materials into her Chinese 201 and 202 classes for the past year, will host the conference and share with her colleagues her web pages as well as her experience working with the technology. The conference will include discussions on a variety of topics, demonstrations, lab visits and a workshop, and will be supported by staff from the Multimedia Lab and the Office of Informational Systems at the Univ. of Puget Sound.

Outcome: Despite differences in our programs and teaching, all three of us are the only faculty in charge of the Chinese language curriculum in our respective universities. We are looking forward to this opportunity to learn more about each other, and hope to pursue the technology that can help more closely connect us and our students in the future. We are interested in possible collaboration in developing multimedia instructional materials. In particular, we have discussed the possibility of doing further work utilizing the video clips that Clara Yu from Middlebury has made available on the FlanNet to share with the Mellon consortia members. We hope the conference will lead to more concrete plans in this regard.

Timeline: The exact dates for the conference are to be arranged; however, it will occur either in May or June. The three-day conference will allow a full day for travel and include a full schedule for the next one and a half days.
