Language: Spanish
Status: Full-time, tenure track
Type: StudentAssistant
Title: Tesoros on line.
Duration: Summer, 1999.
Brief Description of Project: I request funds to complete the project of putting Tesoros, my 3rd. year History, Culture, and Introduction to Hispanic Literature textbook (Tesoros) on a web page with links to footnotes, images, and audio enhancing the text. Jeff Iburg, a senior Spanish major is currently working on that project with monies granted us for this semester. At the present time Jeff is almost half-way through the 14 chapters. (He is currently working on Chapter 7 but the subsequent chapters 8 through 14 are somewhat longer than chapters 1-6.) I request more monies from the Mellon fund to finish this project this summer with Jeff continuing as the student assistant.
Outcome: The purpose of our project is to make the textbook that I have written for 3rd. year available to our students. A new 4 credit course at Whitman, Spanish 315/316, will use this text exclusively in xerox form. Since the textbook is as yet unpublished, students will be able to use this on-line version to review the visual and audio materials which they cannot take with them from class. We have also found here at Whitman that our senior Spanish majors use this text extensively to review for their written and oral major comprehensive exams in Peninsular and Spanish American literature. Thus, the text will also be accessible to them on line as they review for those exams.
Timeline: Summer, 1999: completion of project.
Fall, 1999: use-test by students of Spanish 315-316 at Whitman and by the senior Spanish majors.
