What is SmartSpace?
Do you have a group project coming up? Have you done group projects in the past? If so, then you're ready for SmartSpace.
With these sweet, technologically-enhanced group study areas, no more will your group have to huddle around some tiny-screened computer, on a table that doesn't even fit your Nalgenes, let alone your notes.
In SmartSpace areas, you and your group members can:- Easily hook up laptops (Mac, PC, whatever) to form a kind of "super computer".
- Then, either simultaneously work on the same document(s), or do things separately then join the pieces later.
- Instantly drag/drop images, text, web pages, and other files on to each other's laptops, and/or on to the shared computer space.
It gets even cooler, because all of this is facilitated by a large flat panel TV you can all interact with!

How to use SmartSpace areas
The Olin SmartSpace is available for student use whenever the Olin Lab is open. It is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Science and Douglas SmartSpaces are available whenever the buildings are open.
Each SmartSpace contains a Dell computer and a 42-inch flat screen TV. The spaces can accomodate four (4) to eight (8) people collaborating on a single project.
- The computers do not require you to log in.
- The computers can be controlled from multiple laptops in the room.
- Easy instructions for using the SmartSpace area are available for download and are posted in each room. The instructions are slightly different for Mac OS X and Windows.
