Guest Accounts (long term)
Guest accounts are available for individuals who are conducting activities related to the educational mission of Whitman College and are directly associated with the College, but are not officially on the College's payroll, e.g. visiting professors/scholars, members of auxiliary groups, and others who are working on College business or affiliated with the College.
Guests are expected to use their Whitman account only in support of their work with Whitman, as described in their guest account application, and must be in accordance with the Whitman College's Acceptable Use Policy.
Sponsor
A person applying for a guest account must have a sponsor.
- A sponsor must be a full time Whitman faculty or staff member.
- The sponsor attests to the appropriateness of a College Guest Account and the use of College resources for the guest's particular activity.
- The sponsor is the person working closely with the guest and maintaining contact.
Purpose for the Account
Use of the guest account is restricted to educational purposes of Whitman College, i.e. activities consistent with the educational mission of Whitman College. Examples of such purposes include:
- Guest lecturers
- Departmental affiliates, such as a workshop attendee
- Individuals with special liaison responsibilities with the College
- Individuals who are working with the College on special projects
Limitation
Guest accounts are created as a temporary means of communication for guests of the college, and hence are limited in scope and features. Limitations of the account include the following:
- Inbox for a guest e-mail account is limited to 2 MB.
- Guest e-mail accounts do not receive spam filtering or virus checking services.
- Upon termination of the account, no files or email will be retained.
- WCTS reserves the right to terminate a guest account at any time if the situation warrants such action.
Account Period
Guest accounts are temporary, generally a semester, a summer, or a year. The default is six months, and the maximum period is one year. If an account holder wants to renew his/her account at the end of the account period, it is his/her responsibility to complete and submit a new Guest E-mail Account Application/Renewal form according to the instructions on the form.
Application Process
Granting of guest account privileges will be made only as the result of a written request. The application form can be obtained at WCTS, Olin 168, or in electronic format (pdf).

The Chief Technology Officer will make the approval decision, which can be appealed to the Dean of Faculty or the Dean of Students.
The applicant may stop by WCTS three business days after submitting the application to obtain guest account information.
