Finally! GroupWise 5.2 email is here! The long-awaited upgrade to our email and calendaring program is targeted for
Sunday, April 5th.
If you use GroupWise email, or if you think you might be interested in switching to GroupWise from another mail program, there are a few things you'll want to know about this upgrade. First, the new GroupWise will run faster and more trouble-free than the old version. This is especially true for Macintosh users, who have experienced the sluggish performance of the old GroupWise. The new email program runs without the delays and network "chatter" caused by the old version. GroupWise users should also find it much easier to view attached files they may receive along with an email message. Perhaps the most dramatic improvement with GroupWise 5.2 is the ease with which you can access your email when you are away from Whitman. Whether you are using a dial-in modem connection, or a remote Internet connection like that typically available at many conferences or even public libraries, you will be able to connect to your GroupWise mailbox using nothing more than a web browser, such as Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. You will no longer need to use GroupWise Remote, nor will you need to install any additional software on your home machine You have probably already been contacted by Technology Services, or you have already received detailed instructions describing how you can install the new software on your office computer. Don't delay - the conversion to GroupWise 5.2 will happen at a network level on April 5th, after which you must have the new software on your computer to get your email. If you haven't heard from us, or if you have problems or questions, please contact the Technology Services Help Desk at x4799 (526-4799 off-campus). For complete information about GroupWise 5.2, including instructions for installing the software and for using its many features, see the GroupWise 5.2 Upgrade web page at www.whitman.edu/docs/GWUpgrade.html |
