20MB - personal space on acad-server

There have been some changes made to the computers in the computer labs over the summer. Now, when you walk in to any computer lab on campus and sit down at a computer, you are faced with a login screen. To access the computer, you must login with your Acad-server username (which is the same as your Marcus username, your email address minus the"@whitman.edu"), and your Acad-server password. Once you've entered your Acad information, click "Ok" to log on. You're now logged on to the Acad-server, and have access to the machine.

In addition to the machine access, you are given access to 20MB of personal space on the Acad-server. This means that you can place a total of 20MB worth of files (combined) across your private home folder (on drive G), class folders (drive H), and the PUB folder (drive L for windows users, 'home' folder on macs).

Because you are logged into your personal storage space, an important last step is logging off. All you have to do to log out is click the "Log off" button, on the Start menu. On a mac, just drag the "files" icon to the trash. If you don't log off, someone (anyone) else sitting down to that computer will have access to your files. Remember, log off of Acad-server when you leave the computer.

During spring 2002, and over the summer, you received an email message containing your new network (Acad-server) account information. Your Acad-server password is not the same as your Marcus password. If you don't have this email, or don't remember your account information, you will need to go to the Help Desk in Olin 168 with your Whitman ID to have your password reset.
