  • AYou may not be able to buy a brand new computer, but you can make the one you have run better by staying up-to-date about what"s going on with the operating system you use (Mac or Win98, for example) and with the programs you have. There are lots of free, downloadable updates out there, and tons of hints and tips.

    Keep your antivirus software up-to-date. Whitman provides McAfee VirusScan software free of charge for use on your personal computer. Visit the WCTS documentation page (address above) for instructions on obtaining and installing the software. Then, every couple weeks check for and install an updated "Virus Definition File" Ð a file that works with your virus program to tell it how to recognize the latest viruses (it"s in the docs, too) and install the latest update.
