  • Here are some suggestions for keeping your e-mailbox as efficient as possible (the commands below refer to folks using PINE mail, though the tips certainly apply to everyone!).

    • Save your incoming emails in folders, which helps you organize and lets Marcus work faster. To save your messages, highlight the message, type "S", then type the name of the folder you want to save it to, and then Enter. A "D" will appear next to the message, meaning it will be deleted from the inbox when you log out.

    • Delete messages that you don"t need (Use the D key). Superfluous messages will slow down Marcus, so keep what you need and no more.

    • Use your web space for more efficient transfer of files - sending an attached file to 6 friends means that there will 7 times as much space used (one copy per friend and one in your sent-mail)! Putting things on web pages eliminates this duplication, which benefits the nearly 2000 faculty, staff, and students who use Marcus"s resources.

If you have questions about saving files to folders, deleting messages, checking how much space you"re using, or any other file and space management issues, contact a lab Consultant or the help desk (x4976)!
