  • During the first week of spring break, WCTS offered a one-week workshop in using multimedia elements in creating both web pages and presentations. Faculty members were invited to and could participate in either or both tracks. Eight faculty members attended from various departments across campus including Biology, Psychology, Music, Math, and Art.

The workshops not only assisted faculty in developing web pages and presentations, but also gave an opportunity for faculty to create digital images, audio clips and video segments. At the end of the week, all of the individual pieces were drawn together into a final web page or PowerPoint presentation.

Faculty response to the workshops to date have been favorable. When asked about the workshop, Art History professor Jochen Wierich expressed:

"It was tightly structured and run. It gave me a skill-level to build on."

Matt Prull, Professor of Psychology had the following to say:

"Highly recommended - taking part in the spring Multimedia Institute was a great way for me to learn the basics of web page design. I learned a lot and plan to incorporate the knowledge I gained from this workshop series in designing web pages for the classes I teach."

Ron Urban, Registrar and faculty member added:

"The materials presented in the workshops have the potential to help with a variety of things relating to classes and Institutional research. I have a class site that I will be looking to include video on. The elements the workshop covered will also assist in collecting information for institutional research. I also liked the one-on-one assistance the workshops had to offer. "

The Multimedia Institute allows participating faculty to see first hand what it takes to put together a web page or presentation and gain basic skills in these areas. The Institute will be offered again in late May as part of the Communicating with Technology Initiative, funded by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Inc.
