  • PURGE!

More and more people are saying "Goodbye!" to PINE and turning to its graphical counterpart, the POP or IMAP client.

This is actually a great thing, but there is one thing many users don"t realize about their new email program... deleting a message doesn"t get always get rid of it! That"s right... you"ve deleted it, it"s disappeared from your window, but it"s actually still hanging around in your mailbox.

When you delete a message, all you"ve done is flagged it for erasure later. It isn"t until your INBOX or folder is purged that the message finally wanders away into the ether.

We"ve had users that have deleted nearly a thousand messages, but never purged them....leaving them with a gigantic INBOX! Because of this, the user wasn"t receiving any new mail, and everyone else on Marcus was having to wait long periods of time before their mail would get to them too!

So, be sure you Purge Deleted Messages. This option will be in different places depending on which email client you"re using. Try the Tools or Edit menu. Also, you may be able to set up your IMAP account so that when you quit the program it will automatically purge the deleted messages for you (which is really quite handy.) Check the preferences you"ve set up for your Marcus account for this option.
