The recently funded Rockefeller Brothers project for communication arts has as one of its components an initiative for WCTS to train and support faculty on the use of technology to enhance communication. The Communicating with Technology Initiative (CwTI) focuses on technology issues that impact communication skills by providing mentoring, training workshops and development support for faculty and students. Keiko Pitter, Chief Technology Officer, oversees this component. As part of this initiative, twelve faculty members are invited to participate in a one-week long workshop during summer 2000. The purpose of the workshop is to assist faculty members in creating multimedia projects that enhance communication. This may be in the form of video, a CD-based product, a PowerPoint presentation, or a Web page. Participants must come prepared with a project in mind. For their participation, faculty members are offered stipends of $1,000 per person. Participants can choose among the weeks of June 5, June 12, or June 19. Only six faculty can be accommodated each week. Interested persons should apply via the web application form at The application deadline is March 31, 2000. Faculty workshops will be offered again in the summer of 2001. If a selection process is necessary (if more than 12 people apply), a committee composed of Tom Callister, Keiko Pitter, and Bob Withycombe will make the selection based on the following criteria:
Faculty participating in the CwTI Summer Workshop may be asked to present their projects or to discuss their experiences with others in the Whitman College community. If you need basic skills, WCTS suggests that you take the basic course first, offered through the Multimedia Institute. CwTI Multimedia Institutes offer various training workshops involving audio, video, and graphics technologies, and how to integrate them with your presentations or web pages. The next Multimedia Institute will be offered during the week of May 29. |
