A Few Words About ResNet...
ResNet is up and running! Here are a few details and tid-bits to help you get the most out of your ResNet connection...
- New this year: If you've changed residences, you no longer need to re-register your computer! New students on campus will still need to register. For more information, see http://wcts.whitman.edu/docs/resnet/connectResNet.html.
- Remember, personal wireless access points, routers, and switches are not allowed on ResNet. They interfere with network equipment in the buildings, and can really foul up connections for others on ResNet.
- If you have trouble connecting to ResNet, don't worry - you can get help. Contact the WCTS Helpdesk at 4976, or visit us in Olin 168. We can arrange to have a student ResNet Assistant visit your computer in your room. For more information on ResNet assistants, and to learn about the level of support WCTS is able to provide for ResNet, please see http://wcts.whitman.edu/docs/resnet/WCTSsupport.html.
- If a faster connection is important to you, you can take advantage of ResNet Plus by PocketiNet. The cost is quite reasonable, and you use the exact same network outlet in your room. No need for special equipment (like DSL/cable modem) and there is no setup charge. With this optional connection, you can still access restricted Whitman resources, such as the online campus directory and library resources, just as if you were on a regular ResNet connection. For more information, see http://whitman.pocketinet.com/.
